“Daybreakers” is an amazing blend of action and thought. The intricately woven main and subplots along with the charismatic performance of the award-winning actors make “Daybreakers” one of the most successful ventures of Peter and Michael Speirig. The production cost of this horror flick is estimated at a whopping 21 million dollars. Shot in the picturesque setting of Queensland, Daybreakers is a movie with a difference.
The directors have tried to portray the present day predicament of the world in the disguise of vampires. The allegorical interpretation of the movie gives a clear idea about the message conveyed through the film. The film received a hearty response from the audience at the 34th Annual Toronto International Film Festival. Since then horror, movie enthusiasts across the world are eagerly waiting for the release of this movie.
Success of a film depends on both the cast and crew of the movie. Starting from the actors and directors to the technicians, every individual related to the making and production has contributed to the success of the movie in some way or the other. The Weta Workshop has created the creature effects of the Day breakers. It’s the combined effort of the cast and crew, which has saved Daybreakers from being termed as “just another “Vampire Movie”.
The main theme of the movie is to find out a blood substitute for the vampire race. Ethan Hawke has done justice to the role of a morose haematologist who is unwilling to drink pure blood unless a substitute food is invented for the sustenance of the race. After its premier at the Toronto Film Fest, the movie was a topic of discussion amongst the film buffs for quite sometime. This kind of a concept is very new in Hollywood.
The second attraction of the movie is Willem Dafoe, who is a cured vampire and the antagonist of the movie. On one hand, Edward or Ethan Hawke is in search of a substitute food while on the other Willem tries to save the human race from the vampire affliction. Every minute is unpredictable and you never know what is going to happen in the next minute. Since his introduction in the movie till the end, Dafoe remains to be the most interesting and appealing of all the characters.
Critics are of the opinions that until date nothing like Daybreakers have ever hit the theatres. Consequently, excitement for its release is at its peak. When science, horror, mysticism and fiction amalgamate, it’s sure to churn out a trendsetter like Daybreakers.
